Story

When we first set our eyes on Kalamkari fabrics over a decade back, we were stunned. We knew instantly we had to experiment with them. For over 10 years now, we have consistently work with kalamkari artisans. Our journey begans with regular designs they did on cotton. We then experimented with new fabric textures like silks, tussars, chiffons, georgettes, kota and finally Kanchipuram silk. The beauty of Kalamkari and natural dyes is that the dyes have different effect on each of these. It is beautiful and stunning to look at. Over time we began developing new motifs with the help of our design team. Kalamkari artisans use a range of traditional florals motifs, however we have developed some flowers like Hibiscus, Pomegranate, Roses, Tulips and other motifs which we then incorporate in floral vines. Apart from this we also developed a range of leaf and stem designs to complete the floral vines. Our kalamkari motifs are easily distinguishable from those produced by other brands since we have a modern and contemporary apporach. Our motifs are more open and inspired by the places we travel and visit.

Kalamkari is an ancient art of hand-painting on textiles that has been passed on across generations. Today we have a beautiful heritage of Kalamkari that has assimilated into our culture. Earlier Kalamkari was used to make beautiful tapestry and tent arts too. Today it’s most commonly used on textile to enhance fabrics. Kalamkari is usually done using natural dyes and hand washing them is not recommended. # We highly recommend dry cleaning Kalamkari # Since natural dyes are involved avoid spraying perfume and harsh chemicals directly on the fabric # Kalamkari sarees are washed in natural dyes including milk which may leave a mild smell which diminishes with usage. Air dry fabrics and sarees if you find the smell too pungent # Since natural dyes are used, these fabrics are beautifully with age. Some imperfection is expected and normal # Kalamkaris should not be folded and stored for prolonged periods and be aired regularly to avoid dye bleeding We recommend taking care of these pieces of art to ensure they have a long life.
