Colour: Orange & Black
Motif: Floral

Description: Kalamkari comes from the word Kalam (pen) and kari (craftsmanship). Today, it refers to the art of hand-painting fabrics using natural dyes. The methods used are seeped in culture & history and even today, this craft form is practiced by artisans in Kalakasti.

At Aavaranaa, we have dabbled with Kalamkari and developed our own signature motifs & styles. One such traditional motif is the floral jal which has been used in this blouse.

Kalamkari blouses compliment simple silk & cotton sarees adding an earthy appeal. The muted shades & bold patterns give a much needed break to simple sarees.

This particular raw silk blouse features Kalamkari done on orange raw silk. The saree has a comfortable round neck with high back, making it perfectly comfortable to wear every day. The sleeve features some subtle pintuck detailing. Pair this with sarees that have a chilly red or orange border. It can also be paired with monochromes.

Care Instructions

Kalamkari is an ancient art of hand-painting on textiles that has been passed on across generations. Today we have a beautiful heritage of Kalamkari that has assimilated into our culture. Earlier Kalamkari was used to make beautiful tapestry and tent arts too. Today it’s most commonly used on textile to enhance fabrics. Kalamkari is usually done using natural dyes and hand washing them is not recommended.

# We highly recommend dry cleaning Kalamkari

# Since natural dyes are involved avoid spraying perfume and harsh chemicals directly on the fabric

# Kalamkari sarees are washed in natural dyes including milk which may leave a mild smell which diminishes with usage. Air dry fabrics and sarees if you find the smell too pungent

# Since natural dyes are used, these fabrics are beautifully with age. Some imperfection is expected and normal

# Kalamkaris should not be folded and stored for prolonged periods and be aired regularly to avoid dye bleeding We recommend taking care of these pieces of art to ensure they have a long life.
